 Rescue team prepares to be lifted into the backcountry to assist an injured hiker.  French made high altitude helicopter, the Lama, is used in backcountry rescues because it holds the absolute altitude record for helicopters at 40,822 feet and has a lifting capacity of 2,500 pounds, which also means that the Lama is the only helicopter that can lift its own weight. It can cruise at a speed of 119 mph. |
