| September 6 - 9 Competition is the name of the games at the
Scottish
Highland/Irish Festival at Stanley Park Fairgrounds. Get ready for
bagpipers, Scottish Highland and Irish Step Dancing in addition to the sport
competitions of caber toss (throwing a telephone pole sized log end to end.),
and such things as the sheaf toss, the hammer throw, and the stone put. Also,
there are traditional jousting competitions with real weapons and competitors
from all over the world. When you tire of the competition, you can listen to folk singers, storytellers and fiddle players. Eat anything from hot dogs to traditional Cornish pasties. Drinks include soft drinks to single malt Scotch whiskey. More than just a touch of Scotland and Ireland. |

| December 9-10 Events start at noon with visits with Santa and adorable walking characters along Elkhorn Ave. At 5:30 pm, the ""Come Catch the Glow" Christmas parade of lights begins with floats with floats with thousands of tiny twinkling lights roll by lighting up the street. There are giant wooden soldiers, storybook figures, angels, snowmen, marching bands, celebrities, wildlife characters and so much more! |
